Windows 95 is a consumer-oriented operating system developed by Microsoft as part of its Windows 9x family of operating systems. The first operating system in the 9x family, it is the successor to Windows 3.1x, and was released to manufacturing on August 15, 1995, and generally to retail on August 24, 1995. Boot off the Windows 95 boot disk. Run the setup utility on the Drive Overlay program disk. Remove the disk and boot off the hard drive. Install Windows 95, and choose Compact Installation. After Windows 95 is set up and works, shut down the computer. Set the new hard drive as the master drive. Set the old hard drive as the slave drive. The Windows 95 control panel displays as a list of icons within the Windows Explorer. This makes it look more like the control panel on the classic MacOS, but it is not an actual file folder. Most of the control panel applets use a tabbed dialog style somewhat similar to what OS/2 made popular. Mar 14, 2013 The first is install 95 and use a boot loader to decide whether you boot to dos or 95. But I think the easiest way is to start over with a clean drive and just install 95. Then edit the BOOTGUI line in msdos.sys to read BOOTGUI=0. That way it will alway boot to dos.
Hi, I think I might have accidently deleted some files from windows 95, and now whenever I turn on my computer, it says that it cannot load windows because it is missing a system.ini file. Once it gives me this message it shuts down. I can't boot up to windows. I found a way to boot into dos, by pressing alt F8, when the computer is booting up, but I don't know how to restore the file. I also think that I might have cleared the contents of the recycle bin, the last time I was able to get into windows, because I didn't know that I was deleting a important file. Anyways I have the cd rom for windows 95, but not the floppy disk. Another thing is that I don't want to format my hard drive, so if there is a way to restore this file without formatting my hard drive please let me know. Also I don't know where I can get a boot disk from, and I also need to know if I have to format my hard drive, how I can make backup copies of all my files from dos!!!!!!!!!!!! Please reply soon, I need to use my computer!!! Thank You
